Why the name Mercury 80?

The metaphor I was trying to capture with "Mercury" was that the code base of a Mercury 80 application is strong, structured, and solid, like a metal, but it can conform to any shape business requirement like a liquid will conform to the shape of any surface area.

The number 80 is the IP port used by your browser when interacting with the web.  Not only does Mercury 80 enable rapid building of database applications, but all you need is a web browser to use its powerful database features.  It all happens through port 80.

I also had other ideas about what "80" can mean.  Mercury 80 contains at least 80% of the code base that your small or medium size application will need.. in other words it reduces your development time by 80% compared to building your application from the ground up.

Even after I decided on the name Mercury 80, I discovered that 80 had one more meaningful connection..  I researched the chemical element Mercury, and when looked at its square in the periodic table, I realized the atomic number of Mercury is 80.
